The greatest weakness of using non-coaching-specific chatbots in and for coaching is the lack of coaching-specific knowledge and skills—a deficiency that cannot be fully compensated for, even through prompting. For this reason, in this chapter we focus on AI agents that have been developed specifically for coaching, based on the technical foundations of generative or discriminative AI. In the following, we refer initially only to AI agents that, by means of internal AI prompt scripts—that is, prompt scripts built into the AI—are able to methodically guide the execution of coaching processes. The prospects or need for improvement of this approach—that is, the development of such AI agents—depends on how well the coaching conversation, guided by internal AI prompt scripts, fits the specific coaching issue at hand and the situational state of the coachees in each individual case.
