Datafied processes within society pose ethical challenges in terms of how data is collected, visualized, and used. Yet, meaningful engagement with them is not an easy task. As gatekeepers in society, journalists now deal with big data that is blurred. In the first of two research projects they were asked how these practices changed their self-perception and whether new ethics guidelines are needed. In addition to journalism, other institutions important for democracy, such as research and municipalities, are under pressure to adopt responsible data practices. The second research project examines what an ethical guidelines requirement might look like and how it could be achieved through dialogue.

摘要

Datafied processes within society pose ethical challenges in terms of how data is collected, visualized, and used. Yet, meaningful engagement with them is not an easy task. As gatekeepers in society, journalists now deal with big data that is blurred. In the first of two research projects they were asked how these practices changed their self-perception and whether new ethics guidelines are needed. In addition to journalism, other institutions important for democracy, such as research and municipalities, are under pressure to adopt responsible data practices. The second research project examines what an ethical guidelines requirement might look like and how it could be achieved through dialogue.
