Between Recognition and Pressure: Advertising Creatives’ Inner Conflict Over Awards

Creativity awards are an integral aspect of the advertising industry on a global scale. Earning recognition in the form of trophies is considered a professional milestone that provides valuable emotional and material benefits for victors. Yet, the quest for awards may foster a deep sense of ambivalence that leaves creatives feeling torn between wanting to renew membership in “the golden creative club”, exclusive to the elite of idea generators on the one hand, and the pressure associated with corporate creative tyranny, an unhealthy demand for accolades that negatively impacts their wellbeing on the other.
