This analysis is based on household panel data from GfK covering grocery retailing from 2006 to 2015. The analysis focuses on products in the product categories (PC) of shampoo, roasted coffee, chocolate bars, and laundry detergents. In total, the dataset comprises 7,211,154 purchase transactions from 98,326 different households. In addition to a household number (HH-No.), purchase date, price, quantity, volume, sales revenue, brand, and brand type, the dataset also includes information on the price type of the purchased products. The structure of the data basis is illustrated in Fig. 7.1 using the example of PC 3 (chocolate bars).
