Method for the Decomposition of Market Shares

The method for the decomposition of market shares presented here is designed to analyze shifts within an observed market share by decomposing a given market share according to a categorical variable. This approach enables the examination of whether the influence of selected determinants on this market share leads to a shift within the market share between the categories of the categorical variable. The concept of market share decomposition is introduced in the following section and illustrated with the help of an example.
