In public and security policy debates in Germany, the so-called “clan crime” phenomenon has been repeatedly discussed and sensationalized over the past few years. However, little attention has been paid to the causes behind the emergence of legally relevant behavior within these groups or to preventive measures. This article examines the conditions under which such criminal behavior arises and is sustained from a biographical perspective. The focus lies on understanding the life worlds and interpretative frameworks of the affected individuals themselves.
