On the one hand, a slim majority of Germans reject capitalism: they believe it is incompatible with the environment, socially unbalanced, and promotes traits such as selfishness, a dog-eat-dog society, and excessive consumption. Particularly, almost two-thirds of the youth are critical of capitalism. On the other hand, capitalism has undeniably brought about enormous prosperity in recent decades. Many millions of people around the world have managed to overcome hunger and live a life at a higher level of prosperity. So why, and this is the core question of the book, is this capitalism constantly questioned, and even partially rigorously fought against, especially since socialist experiments in the past have failed?
