This chapter describes the importance of a structured innovation management system for promoting strategic innovation in traditional industrial companies. Based on the dynamic capabilities described, this allows for both exploiting existing competitive advantages and developing new ones. The necessary innovation process is divided into innovation strategy and innovation development. The innovation strategy process, which is the focus here, aims at the systematic identification and prioritization of innovation potentials in order to create a balanced innovation portfolio that supports long-term profitable growth.
