Pensions fulfil an essential role in creating safety for individuals’ financial security and safety for overall societal stability and welfare. As such, it is only natural to find the most effective and efficient way in delivering such a system to the populace. While the discussion of pensions and increasing efficiencies through potential technology implementations are extremely important, research remains extremely niche and unfocused on specialties. Kamal et al confirm this in their 2023 paper that there is a lack of research in applying DLT or any blockchain technology in the area of pension systems. The limited research to date has been highly theoretical with limited examples of practical applications or benefits to individuals. If one takes a step to view the research space, pensions have lengthy documentation which is academically driven in understanding history and arrival to the modern pension system; however, as the purpose of the research that is engaged in these pages the focus is different and the breadth of research available in the pension space has limited applicability in defining pension system DLT based efficiencies. As a result, this body of work will include a mix of research rooted in secondary sources that are not only academic journals or research papers.
