The concept of a pension plan seems to be inherently interwoven to the societal fabric that comes with full time employment. Although it seems this way in modern times, the concept of a pension is fairly new. The roots of the idea were laid in 1881 as a concept and in 1889 as a practical implementation where Germany is touted to be the first nation to adopt such a system (as designed by Otto von Bismarck).
