Introduction
摘要
Emotions are a fundamental part of our human experience, shaping our thoughts, decisions, and behaviors in profound ways. While much of the research on emotions has focused on basic emotions like joy and sadness, this book focuses on a different category, the so-called self-conscious emotions. These emotions include guilt, shame, regret, pride, envy and embarrassment, and are intimately tied to our sense of self. This book aims to explore some of these complex emotional experiences, examining the roles self-conscious emotions—specifically guilt and pride—play within collectives. I will empirically investigate their antecedents as well as their resulting intentions and behaviors. Additionally, the present work will explore the extent to which individuals are able to anticipate these emotions, and how they might serve as guide towards future moral behavior. Finally, I will empirically assess how others perceive individuals who express collective emotions. Taken together, by shedding light on the nature of self-conscious emotions in collectives, this book seeks to contribute to our understanding of how these emotions shape social dynamics and individual actions within groups.
