Products and their systems do not only need to fulfill one criterion, in most cases they are designed in a trade-off between multiple aspects. As an example, one can think of a vehicle traction battery, that should have a low weight, high energy content, temperature and vibration resistance and a long lifetime. It is not possible to fulfill all these completely, therefore technical development needs to identify the best compromise in this area of conflict.
