In addition to the profiles of the researchers in this book, the editors of this volume have also sought to reflect on their own roles and positions in the field of intercultural communication research. For this purpose, they have conducted interviews with each other and asked each other questions, against the background of which they have also reflected on the interculturalists in this book. Christoph Barmeyer is a cultural economist, interculturalist, and organizational researcher. His research focuses on cultural (work) contexts on the one hand and on intercultural interactions where actors negotiate meanings and thus new cultures on the other. The paradigm he adopts is constructive, seeing cultural differences not as obstacles but as opportunities which enable actors to experience individual and collective change and development and to shape reality. As a scholar of cultural studies and discourse studies, Dominic Busch is interested in the social and discursive construction of the understanding of culture. The subject of intercultural communication thus itself becomes a culture-specific plane for social projections where social discourse about desirable and undesirable modes of behavior in a diverse and globalized world is negotiated and expressed.
