Accident Prevention and Severity Reduction
摘要
A key goal of vehicle development is to reduce the number of accidents to a minimum and to mitigate the consequences of accidents or, in the long term, to achieve accident-free traffic (“Vision Zero”). The European Commission has set the goal of achieving this vision by 2050. To this end, the number of traffic fatalities is to be halved in the period from 2020 to 2030 and to reach a target value of approximately 11,400 people killed in road traffic across Europe by 2030. In 2021, the number of people killed in road traffic in Europe was approximately 19,900. Passive safety systems such as airbags or improved vehicle structures, legal regulations, but also infrastructural measures, such as road conditions and intersection concepts, have continuously reduced the number of people killed in road traffic. The introduction of active safety systems and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) in the last two decades has also had a positive impact on the development of accident statistics.
