In our contemporary world that is closely tied to the digital information realm, the emergence of complex global crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing conflicts and wars in several parts of the world particularly demonstrates an overabundance of both accurate and misleading information. Social media platforms play an essential and indispensable role in exchanging information, both in everyday life and crises [ 537 ]. However, social media platforms are further characterized by attributes like high speed of dissemination, low cost, and (alleged) anonymity, which collectively create an environment conducive to the dissemination of misleading information [ 539 ].
