The field of extended education encompasses a variety of different offerings that have emerged from different societal impetuses. This has resulted in culture- and context-specific conceptions and developments that have shaped the respective extended education offerings. From an international perspective, this is both interesting and challenging. A particular challenge lies in the use of different terms in different languages and also in the fact that terms may differ in countries with the same language. This article illustrates exemplary developments in the field of extended education from individual countries. The main aim, however, is to provide an overview of the various extended education offerings worldwide and to bring them into a unified perspective. To this end, a revised characterization tool is used to characterize the similarities and particularities of extended education offerings in the countries and regions presented in this volume. The article concludes with an outlook on upcoming further developments concerning extended education.
