Schooling during Lockdown: Negotiations of Educational Responsibility in the Family During the First Wave of the COVID19 Pandemic

Based on interviews with families of 4th to 6th grade students in Switzerland, the article discusses how educational responsibilities are negotiated in family contexts under the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic. How were responsibilities balanced, who was held accountable in what way, and what options for action were available to children and parents? The analyzed data points to a broad spectrum of negotiations, which ranges from the acceptance to the partial rejection of responsibility.
