Following the approval of the Paris Agreement in 2016, which aims to limit the global average temperature increase to well below 2  \( ^{\circ }\text {C}\) , the European Climate Law (ECL) was put into action, in July 2021, declaring the EU’s commitment to being climate neutral by the middle of this century. To work towards this objective, the law is set to cut down on greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% compared to the levels in 1990 by the year 2030.
