This chapter analyses the perspectives of second-generation Turks with transnational political interests on the political opportunity structures in Germany and the Netherlands. These perspectives provide explanations for why political transnationalism has persisted among Turks in Western Europe and what policy approaches may be taken in order to increase immigrant political participation. In this sense, this chapter draws causal implications for the ways in which political transnationalism is reinforced among Turkish migrants, arguing that constrained opportunities in the country of residence contribute to political transnationalism by undermining the sense of political identification with the receiving country.

摘要

This chapter analyses the perspectives of second-generation Turks with transnational political interests on the political opportunity structures in Germany and the Netherlands. These perspectives provide explanations for why political transnationalism has persisted among Turks in Western Europe and what policy approaches may be taken in order to increase immigrant political participation. In this sense, this chapter draws causal implications for the ways in which political transnationalism is reinforced among Turkish migrants, arguing that constrained opportunities in the country of residence contribute to political transnationalism by undermining the sense of political identification with the receiving country.
