If a transmission channel causes distortions of the transmitted signal, measures are necessary to compensate for these so that the transmission quality still meets the requirements placed on the transmission system. In this chapter, based on the fundamentals of baseband transmission presented in Chap. 2 and the description of the transmission properties of copper cables developed in Chap. 3, possibilities for compensating for channel distortions are examined and discussed when a copper two-wire line is assumed as a linearly distorting channel for a baseband transmission system. The approach to describing, analyzing, and optimizing such transmission systems from Chap. 2 is essentially maintained and applied to the now present practically relevant case, expanded as needed, and deepened in this way. Detailed numerical examples again serve to illustrate the general insights gained and the principles developed.

摘要
