In today’s world, the importance of risk management has grown tremendously with the rapid pace of technological innovation and globalization. With the advent of complex financial systems and convoluted supply chains, events such as the 2008 financial crisis have highlighted the dire consequences of inadequate risk oversight. The digital age brought new dimensions of risk, from cyber-security threats to privacy issues, forcing companies and governments to navigate risks in uncharted territory (Fig. 1).
