Fuzzy methods are about formally representing and solving problems that are “fuzzy,” meaning rather vague and not precisely defined. A statement like “x is rather taller than his peers” is an imprecise statement that eludes conventional methods of formalization. With fuzzy methods, such problems can be well addressed; one must never forget that they are extensions of logical-mathematical procedures, which can, in principle, be handled in the same way as the known methods from logic and set theory.
