Pineapple (Ananas comosus var. comosus) plays an important role in Côte d’Ivoire’s economy. The growing demand for pineapple worldwide requires intensive cultivation. Intensive cultivation is linked to the availability of plant material. Natural regeneration, which until now has ensured the reproduction of pineapple plants, seems inadequate as it is unable to meet the high demand from growers. So in vitro cultivation is the strategy adopted by Côte d’Ivoire researchers to provide growers with more resistant, high-performance varieties. In addition, research has shown that in vitro cultivation of pineapple can influence its phytochemical profile, including the concentration of bioactive compounds such as polyphenols and other secondary metabolites, as well as the nutritional quality, flavor, and aroma of the fruit.
