Space Environment of Planets
摘要
We review the basic physics that governs the space environments of planets in the solar system. We discuss the formation of the solar wind and the form of the field and plasma in the heliosphere and go on to discuss the nature of planetary magnetospheres. We describe the basic characteristics of planetary magnetic fields and the dynamics associated with the solar wind interaction and rotational dynamics. We discuss the resulting magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling currents and resulting auroral emission. We finally briefly consider the implications for exoplanets and brown dwarfs.
