The state-of-practice for standard materials test methods for full-culm bamboo described by ISO 22157:2019 Bamboo structures—Determination of physical and mechanical properties of bamboo culms—Test methods. This chapter is a laboratory guide intended to complement the ISO 22157 standard. The chapter provides background, commentary and discussion of the geometric (dimensions and derived cross section properties), material (density, unit weight and moisture content) and mechanical (compression, tension, shear, flexure) property test methods described in ISO 22157. Appropriate means of practically implementing ISO 22157 test methods are described. Additional descriptions of appropriate means of obtaining strain data and correctly interpreting and reporting statistical data pertaining to test data are also presented.
