Schumpeter’s characterization of the capitalist economic system as driven by disequilibrium resulting from major technological breakthroughs is a paradigmatic idea that continues to be a main source of inspiration for scholars assembled in the International Schumpeter Society. This chapter sketches a personal (although influenced by many others) path of scholarly development that is still trying to come to grips with modelling this ‘restless capitalism.’ Contemporary global developments underline the relevance of studying Schumpeter’s ideas about capitalism and the role that technology-based entrepreneurship plays in it but should also encourage us to broaden our agenda to include topics such as sustainability and democracy.
