Geographical Indications in the EU: A Multifaceted Policy Framework
摘要
Over the years, the EU established the objectives of the quality schemes for GIs in the context of the common agriculture policy and the internal market. As it will be explained in this chapter, the set of goals of the EU GIs scheme has not been, of course, uncontroversial, like the Feta, Prosciutto and Mozzarella cases illustrate. Likewise, Rioja II and Schwarzwälder Schinken cases shaped the GIs position in the context of the free movement of goods. Then, Commission v Council (Revised Lisbon Agreement) case serves to demonstrate that GIs have become a substantial component of the Common Commercial Policy and provided a foothold to extend the scope of GI protection under the Geneva Act.
