The Training of Clinical Bioethicists: Technical and Human Competencies Through Empathy
摘要
This chapter explores the training of the clinical bioethicist from a dual perspective: technical excellence and the development of human capacities, with special emphasis on empathy. In a context of scientific advances and complex ethical dilemmas, clinical bioethics emerges as an essential discipline to counteract dehumanization in health care. It is argued that a comprehensive training is indispensable, transcending theoretical knowledge of principles to encompass a profound humanistic training. The chapter proposes a competency-based training model that integrates three key dimensions: theoretical knowledge (ethical foundations and legal framework), practical skills (dilemma analysis, communication, and mediation), and attitudes and values (empathy, integrity, and respect for dignity). It postulates that professional excellence is based on the human quality of the professional, suggesting the integration of the humanities in training to cultivate ethical sensitivity and a person-centered perspective. The chapter concludes that the integral formation of the bioethicist is crucial to transform medical practice into a profoundly human experience, strengthening humanism in the health sciences to face contemporary ethical challenges.
