Bioethical Education in Ibero-America: Main Characteristics and Current Challenges

This chapter examines bioethics education in Ibero-America, highlighting its development, current offerings, and challenges. It highlights the growth of bioethical training in countries such as Mexico, Spain, Brazil, Argentina, and Chile, showcasing online, in-person, and hybrid programs. Though clinical bioethics remains the focus, interest in socio-legal and environmental bioethics is rising. The chapter also discusses the importance of bioethics in healthcare, research ethics committees, and public policy, stressing the need for ethical training in health professional education. Despite advancements, challenges in curriculum integration, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the practical application of bioethics persist. The chapter concludes with suggestions to improve bioethics education, advocating for broader topics, diverse teaching methods, and increased international cooperation.
