Gender Perspective in Bioethics: Toward an Integral Reflection
摘要
This chapter argues that the integration of a gender perspective in bioethics is a fundamental moral necessity to overcome the androcentric biases inherent in traditional frameworks. The chapter posits that conventional bioethics, by basing itself on apparently universal principles and an abstract moral agent, has systematically invisibilized the experiences of women, people with diverse gender identities, and other marginalized populations. The chapter’s objective is to propose a reorientation of the discipline toward a social justice project, using analytical tools such as intersectionality, the ethics of care, and relational autonomy. It examines key issues where gender is a determining factor, including sexual and reproductive health, the exclusion of women in clinical research, the medicalization of trans identities, and algorithmic biases in artificial intelligence. The authors conclude that a transformative bioethics must go beyond abstract principles to address lived experiences and the social context, demanding institutional reforms and aligning with movements for social and epistemic justice to effectively respond to contemporary ethical dilemmas.
