Food Quality Monitoring System Using IoT
摘要
This paper proposes a new integrated monitoring system in addressing food spoilage and/or contamination issues. It includes a unique appliance for integrating and monitoring a new set of food quality sensors in health hazard detection for solid and liquid food. One of the new sensors is a MQ-4 gas sensor that determines the presence of spoilage gas for solid food, while a liquid food pH sensor is also included. An Arduino-based microcontroller translates the readings from the gas and pH sensors into food quality data to be monitored over the cloud. The system then sounds alarm and provides food quality data over LCD for users to take mitigating actions. Moreover, the system includes a DHT11 sensor which provides temperature and humidity data as important food environment quality detections and storage conditions. The system integrates environmental conditions and food quality sensors to provide a more reliable portable device to minimize foodborne illness, food waste, and food safety. The most significant outcome of the system is to provide greater food environment insights.
