In Chapter 3 , we provide a more detailed definition of self-determination and establish its relationship to the concept of secession. Examples of the TEXIT movement in Texas and the establishment of the Palmetto Republic in South Carolina are used to highlight the concepts. Sovereignty is defined, and its relationship to self-determination and secession is discussed. Similarly, the role of federalism in both self-determination and secession is explained.
