The intent of this chapter is to distinguish the physiologic process of gas transfer from alveolus to capillary from the interpretation of the clinical diffusion capacity (DlCO) test. A low DlCO does not necessarily indicate an abnormality of gas transfer at the cellular level. To illustrate, the text revisits the classic description of gas diffusion by August and Marie Krogh in some detail.

摘要

The intent of this chapter is to distinguish the physiologic process of gas transfer from alveolus to capillary from the interpretation of the clinical diffusion capacity (DlCO) test. A low DlCO does not necessarily indicate an abnormality of gas transfer at the cellular level. To illustrate, the text revisits the classic description of gas diffusion by August and Marie Krogh in some detail.
