Prospects of Biochar and Nano-Biochar in Ameliorating Salinity Stress

Salt stress possess a severe threat to agriculture impacting greater towards soil health, microbial activity, and ultimately suppression of plant growth and development. This ill effect of salt pertaining in soil layers tend to warns future food in-security. Under saline situation, crop suffers severe set back by inducing ionic, oxidative, and osmotic stress thereby inducing hormonal imbalances and enzyme denaturation when occurs at severe rate. Several studies and approaches were intended to manage salt concentration in soil. But emerging novel approaches like nano-based amendments like nano based biochar had greater attention in scientific forum which fetch greater result in amelioration of salt in soil, moreover it will be environmentally safe, greater efficiency, non-toxicity. Amending biochar not only reduces stress situation, but also paved a way for better yield outcome, nutrient uptake and so on. Several studies on different dimension involved nano-based approaches which limits in studying towards salinity. Thus this chapter deeply discusses on key effects of carbon rich amendments including biochar and nano-biochar for ameliorating salt stress in soil for sustainable agriculture and better salt tolerant. And moreover this chapter highlights various nano based amending sources and its effect on crop nutrient uptake and better performance.
