In this study, the security of some home Internet of Things (IoT) devices is assessed empirically. The number of IoT devices has recently grown fast, when devices, such as vacuum cleaners, coffeemakers and led strips are connected to the internet. This has grown the attack surface. A new attack technique, named as response size amplification, was discovered in this study. It causes a denial-of-service situation to access points/routers. A total of three security faults emerged from this research, and each warrants the attention of device manufacturers.

摘要

In this study, the security of some home Internet of Things (IoT) devices is assessed empirically. The number of IoT devices has recently grown fast, when devices, such as vacuum cleaners, coffeemakers and led strips are connected to the internet. This has grown the attack surface. A new attack technique, named as response size amplification, was discovered in this study. It causes a denial-of-service situation to access points/routers. A total of three security faults emerged from this research, and each warrants the attention of device manufacturers.
