Conclusion: Politeness and the Moral Order
摘要
This chapter offers a conclusion by arguing that politeness practices and patterns always reflect values, beliefs, and attitudes. This can be examined through the moral order. At a localised level, interlocutors may converge towards, or diverge away from, normally acceptable behaviour. Interactants may question existing norms and practices and seek to establish relationships fashioned on a more equitable basis perhaps through co-construction and negotiation. Politeness disuse, opposition, and resistance are being expressed in innovative and creative ways leading perhaps to a new moral order in Tapatio (Guadalajara residents) politeness practices.
