In the variegated multiplicity of groups and movements against nuclear weapons operating in Italy during the Cold War, this contribution focuses on a specific limited group of scientists (mainly physicists) active both in Italy and internationally and on two structures they generated: the International School on Disarmament and Research on Conflicts (ISODARCO, born 1966) and Unione degli Scienziati per il Disarmo (USPID, Union of Scientists for Disarmament, created 1982). They also played an important role in the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs, which involves scientists and scholars on a global level. Both ISODARCO and USPID continue to the present time, but in this chapter only their activities up to the beginning of this century are considered. Most of the material presented here is based on personal recollections and unpublished documents.

摘要
