Research on Structural Design of Mechanically Decoupled Breast Implants Made by Fused Deposition Modeling Technology
摘要
This paper presents a breast implant designed as a mechanically decoupled system composed of external and internal structures. Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) technology was considered for the experiments in combination with medical grade materials. The external circular, multi-arched structure has been designed in such way to ensure load absorption. MRI scans were processed in Slicer3D and SolidWorks to create three implant models, being subsequently analyzed through finite element simulations and compression tests made under a 30 N load for estimating its mechanical behavior. The outer structure was fabricated from thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU 85A) material with helical channels testing it using two types of FDM printers of fabricating of the complex structures designed in this way with specifically mechanical characteristics that are required for such type of implants.
