This paper aims to investigate the important issue of development aspect in working with application programming interfaces (API) for networked game environments. We describe a systematic method that employs an automated tool to measure API complexity quantitatively. This analysis constitutes an important feedback loop, offering up perspectives on how design decisions affect the ease of programming distributed applications. By considering API structures and their interaction patterns—similar to what are observed in the server-client REST API models, our work shows how objective complexity metrics can inform evolution of an API to be used with increased usability, while minimizing development friction in supporting scalable backend integration for real-time interactive systems.

摘要
