According to Hezbollah official historiography, Hassan Nasrallah was born on 28 November 1959 (rather than 31 August 1960, as stated in most biographies) in the mixed, working-class suburb of Bourj Hammoud of Beirut. This area is also known as the Armenian suburb of Beirut and is located northeast of the capital, far from the traditional Shi’a heartland. Specifically, he was born in the “Camp Sharshabuk” (or “Charchabouk”) area associated with this neighbourhood. This was a squatter settlement located in the Karantina area of eastern Beirut.
