How Violence Develops and Where It Can Lead
摘要
The title of the chapter is inspired by a quote from the title of H. Böll’s book “The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum, or: How Violence Develops and Where It Can Lead.” The chapter opens with an analysis of Böll’s essay “Does Ulrike Want Clemency or Safe Conduct?”, which serves as a starting point for presenting the pathway to radicalization within the broader 1968 movement. The chapter then delves into the factors enabling radicalization, focusing on international relations and domestic politics and highlighting the role of mass media in this process. It sets the stage for introducing the history, aftermath, and legacy of the Red Army Faction (RAF) and, from the road to the RAF, moves on to present the contemporary extremist landscape in Germany and beyond.
