Minimalism is not a new phenomenon, but dates back to the nineteenth century and has its origins in philosophy, architecture, visual arts, and music. Minimalism is gaining relevance due to social awareness of its importance in promoting sustainable consumer behavior and supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 12, which focuses on responsible consumption and reducing environmental impact. A minimalist lifestyle involves consciously reducing possessions and focusing resources on meaningful activities. This leads to increased well-being, environmental awareness, and long-term societal benefits. Both individuals and companies must embrace minimalism with authentic, value-oriented approaches. Widespread acceptance of minimalism can promote sustainable industries and transform economic structures into welfare-based systems, which can be enabled by supportive policies and frameworks.
