Digitalization and Gender (In)equality: Overview of Current Trends
摘要
This paper examines the intersection of digitalization and gender equality, focusing on how disparities in digital access and usage correlate with gender equality indicators across various demographics and regions. Utilizing data from the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 5, which targets gender equality and women's empowerment, this study employs an independent samples T-test to analyze differences in digitalization metrics such as internet usage, mobile connections, and social media activity, against gender-related variables like autonomy in passport application, head of household status, and employment rights in risky jobs. The analysis includes data from a minimum of 165 countries, highlighting significant disparities where enhanced digital engagement is observed in regions with robust gender equality measures. These findings underscore the crucial role of equitable policies in bridging the digital divide.
