Gendered Patterns in Serial Homicide: Female Offenders in Comparative Perspective
摘要
Research on female serial killers has been poor, with case studies and simple descriptions of limited samples too common. In this chapter, the research on female serial killers is reviewed, and the differences between female and male serial killers are identified. A masculinity score, based on characteristics of the murderer that are more traditionally associated with male serial killers (such as prior arrests) and the crime scene (such as the use of torture on the victims) is created and correlates of the score identified. Older female serial killers obtained higher masculinity scores because they more often displayed certain characteristics and more frequently engaged in specific behaviors than younger female serial killers.
