Interviews with Serial Murderers: What Is Revealed?
摘要
This chapter addresses the goals and outcomes of research interviews with convicted serial killers by the FBI in early 2000 and onward. A brief history of this research is provided, followed by academic requirements, challenges, and limitations, including Institutional Review Board (IRB) approvals, use of the Hare Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (PCL-R), and related concerns. A discussion of general findings is included, supported by several case examples. The chapter concludes with relevant commentary on interviews conducted in recent years, which have granted access to incarcerated inmates for a wider variety of interviewers, including print and video journalists, academic researchers, and true crime media outlets such as podcasts and television productions.
