This chapter explores the rare but profoundly disturbing phenomenon of dismemberment and mutilation in serial homicide cases. Drawing on international research and forensic case studies, it aims to delineate key distinctions between dismemberment and mutilation, outlines a tripartite motivational classification (defensive, aggressive, and offensive), and examines their forensic, psychological, and investigative implications. The chapter analyzes behavioral patterns across organized and disorganized typologies and emphasizes how motivational and organizational styles may diverge between the murder and postmortem phases. The chapter also investigates gender differences, developmental trauma, mental health profiles, and legal outcomes, particularly in relation to the insanity defense, followed by a discussion of contemporary investigative challenges and future research directions in this underexplored domain of extreme violence.

摘要
