Roots: Building Philosophical Foundations for AI Alignment
摘要
This chapter lays the groundwork for a philosophical investigation into intelligence, normativity, and preferences in the context of artificial intelligence. Acknowledging the absence of consensus around these terms, it argues that any theoretical framework, especially in AI, must begin with explicit metaphysical and metaethical presuppositions. Rather than defending a particular foundational stance, the aim here is to make explicit the assumptions underlying the proposed framework: Dynamic Normativity. In it, we address metaphysical ambiguities by defining intelligence within a Physicalist and dynamist framework and engaging with critical perspectives. Meanwhile, we also turn to metaethics, articulating the ethical foundations relevant to normative reasoning in intelligent systems and outlining the structure of a system capable of embodying a dynamic normative behavior.
