Areca Leaves and Trunk
摘要
Areca leaves are regularly shed from the tree and form the major byproduct by weight. However, the complex structure, variations, and size make it difficult to utilize the leaves. Nevertheless, areca leaves have been made into briquettes, used for production of ethanol and for extraction of cellulose. Extracts from the leaves have been useful for medical, anticorrosive applications, and also for synthesis of nanoparticles. Similarly, areca trunks are available when trees are cut or damaged. Traditionally, areca trunks have been used in construction and building primarily as supporting beams, false roofing, or in attics. Nevertheless, areca leaves have been made into briquettes, used for production of ethanol and for extraction of cellulose. In addition to conventional use as building material, in recent times, for composites and as part of furniture to replace conventional wood.
