In addition, areca sheaths have been used for extraction of natural cellulose fibers and also used as reinforcement of composites. Components in areca leaf sheaths have been used as substrate for mushroom cultivation and production of paper. Other value-added applications of the sheath include composting, extraction of lignin, and enzyme production.
