In the past three decades, right-wing populist parties and leaders have become a widespread feature of many political systems around the world, but while in several contexts we mostly tend to find charismatic populist leaders, it is in Europe that structured right-wing populist parties have flourished. While virtually all the continent is today marked by the success of this new party type, Italy is a particularly significant case. This latter is indeed a quite interesting political laboratory for right-wing populism, since it has witnessed the success of conservative and right-wing populist parties and leaders since the mid-1990s, from Silvio Berlusconi to the Northern League party. More recently, in 2022, it witnessed the massive electoral victory of another right-wing populist party, Brothers of Italy, in alliance with another party belonging to the same “family,” the League. The paper will analyze the history of these two parties (and their ancestors) and their current positions on sensitive issues related to religious pluralism and to morality politics, and the policies they carried out during their term in government.

摘要
